Ocean Sustainability Policy

A Statement from our Managing Director

Ocean strives to provide the best possible customer experience, and the best employee support and care, while positively contributing to our local communities, and to the City of Bristol. We're committed to doing this in the most sustainable way possible. - Paul Harris

Our Goal

To make sustainability central to everything we do as a business, and focus on our environmental impact in the same way as we do customer service and our financial targets.

Sustainability Policy

As Ocean Property Services Group has grown over the years, so has our negative impact on the environment. We need to do everything we can to reduce this impact by changing how we operate. Tackling climate change and protecting the environment is a global challenge, but we can take action locally to help protect the future for our clients, employees, families and neighbours. We will ensure sustainability is considered in all aspects of our business, to make it central to our thinking and second nature in all decision making. We will focus on our environmental impact in the same way we focus on customer experience and our financial targets – they are all intrinsically linked.

What have we done so far?

We’ve taken some important first steps to reduce our environmental impact. These are some of the biggest and most obvious things we can change. They represent a good start, but it’s just the beginning for us, we intend to do much more…

  • Carried out a comprehensive carbon audit of all companies across the Ocean Group.

  • Our utilities have been switched to renewable electricity (sourced from solar and wind) and renewable gas (generated from food waste)

  • Offset our carbon footprint. We did this based on figures before switching our utilities, so we’re actually offsetting significantly more carbon than we produce!

  • Switched our toilet paper to recycled paper with no plastic packaging.

What else can we do?

Sustainability is all of our responsibility. There are a lot of the small things we can do each day to help reduce our impact whilst in the workplace:

  • Recycling: We have recycling bins in every office and notices encouraging staff to recycle everything possible correctly.

  • Turning off electronics when not in use: We turn everything off at the wall at the end of each day

  • Avoid sending unnecessary emails: A vital small step to reducing global emissions from server usage.

  • Print smart: Printing is only used when 100% necessary and double-sided, black and white printing is prioritised.

Ongoing Projects

  • Annual Carbon Audit: In 2021 we carried out our first comprehensive carbon audit of all companies across the Ocean Group. The audit will be completed annually.

  • Renewable Utilities: Our utilities have been switched to renewable electricity (sourced from solar and wind) and renewable gas (generated through anaerobic digestion from food waste), this will continue.

  • Offset our carbon footprint: This was completed based on figures prior to switching utility providers, therefore we have offset significantly more carbon than we now produce. Offsetting will be focused on benefiting the environment in both the UK and overseas.

  • Use recycled materials where possible: We have switched our toilet paper to recycled paper with no plastic packaging, more to follow.

Our future commitments

  • To provide the means for each office to travel sustainably to work appointments

  • Offer hybrid or electric company cars

  • End leafleting, brochures and paper property marketing

  • Organise environmentally beneficial events e.g. litter picking

  • Strive to do more! We’ll remain ambitious in reducing our negative impact locally
