Winterbourne is a large village in South Gloucestershire on the north side of Bristol, neighbouring Winterbourne Down, Hambrook and Frenchay. To the north east are the villages of Frampton Cotterell and Coalpit Heath.
Much of Winterbourne is located on a hill. The village is partially surrounded by woodlands and fields. Winterbourne Viaduct carries the railway over the River Frome. From the Cloisters area there are picturesque views of Frome Valley and the viaduct. Beneath the viaduct is the abandoned Huckford Quarry, a public nature reserve.
In the village there are national banks and a few chain shops, but also an independent bakery and butchers, a post office and a library.
All types of property can be found, from cottages to 1930s semis to modern detached houses in small developments.
Winterbourne is considered a commuter village as there are excellent links between local towns and villages as well as the city (via the A4174 or B4058) and motorways (via the Bristol Ring Road onto the M32/M4). Its about eight miles from the city.
The nearest railway station is about three miles away at Yate or 4.5 miles in the other direction at Bristol Parkway (in Stoke Gifford). Theres an extensive bus network.
