An energy performance certificate is very similar to the graph found on the side of many domestic appliances. A certificate gives the building a rating from A to G. Property rated as band A are most likely to have lower fuel bills than those rated band G. A certificate also indicates the environmental impact of the building by indicating its carbon dioxide emissions.
It is a legal requirement to have energy performance certificate prior to the sale or rent of most homes.
Energy performance certificates can only be produced by an accredited energy inspector who has passed a series of examinations and has also passed a criminal records check.
